Bengaluru: Shaadi Bhagya scheme launched by the previous Siddaramaiah-led Congress government had led to a massive controversy with the opposition parties demanding more money for education of the Muslim women and not for their marriage.
Under the scheme, 50,000 women applicants were given marriage materials worth of Rs.50,000 each, but now the state government has decided to cancel the scheme.
On Saturday, the state government issued a notification asking the minority welfare department to stop receiving the applications under the scheme.
The department has also been asked to send the pending application details by Monday evening.
This decision is expected to lead to a massive controversy with Congress leaders deciding to oppose it. They are expected to raise the issue in the state assembly session on Monday.
