Info flooding on Jaishankars where abouts

Bangalore:Barely two days after Home Minister K. J. George announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any credible information leading to the arrest of the 34-year-old serial rapist and killer, Jaishankar, the Karnataka police have stated that they have been inundated with calls by people claiming to have spotted Jaishankar, and in addition, possessing knowledge of his whereabouts.

However, none of the leads have proven to be accurate so far, police said. “So far, we are still making all efforts to nab Jaishankar. The police and public in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been placed on high alert; and the offer of a reward has sent the public into a frenzy.

We realise they are trying to be helpful and lead us to Jaishankar, so we are taking every call seriously and having the leads checked thoroughly,” said a senior police official who is part of one of the four special teams formed to capture the runaway fugitive.

Meanwhile, rumours continued to do the rounds that Jaishankar had been spotted in various places. On Monday, the buzz was that Tamil Nadu police had reportedly apprehended him in Hosur; and on Tuesday evening, sources said Jaishankar had been spotted near Bidadi in Ramanagaram.

“He has not been arrested yet, but we will hopefully catch him before he attempts to commit another crime,”the official added.

He pulled off a brazen and meticulously planned escape from Parappana Agrahara central prison on Sunday, after scaling two 15-feet inner walls and jumping off a 30-feet outer compound wall with electrical fencing.

He is wanted in connection with 26 cases of rape, murder, and dacoity in Bengaluru Rural, Chitradurga, Hiriyur, Kadur, Molakalmur, Bijapur, and Tumkur districts in Karnataka, and Chennai, Dharmpuri, Hosur, Salem,  and Tirupattur districts of Tamil Nadu.
