Bengaluru:In a major setback to senior IPS officer Hemanth Nimbalkar, the state government issued permission to CBI to prosecute him in the multi thousand crores IMA scam.

On December 18, CBI had sought permission to file chargesheet against Nimbalkar, who is facing allegation of allowing IMA to carryout illegal business by giving it a clean chit when he was in the CID (economic offenses).

Nimbalkar is the husband of Anjali Nimbalkar, MLA of Khanapur in Belagavi. She is a Congress legislator.

Nimbalkar, who is considered as the blue eye boy of the media and a section of politician and bureaucracy was under Lokayukta radar when Justice N Santosh Hegde was the Lokayukta chief. A raid was carried out against him.

“Hemanth was an ambitious officer. He got quick promotions and was posted in sensitive posts like SP Ballari, SP Belagavi, IG-Western Range in Mangaluru, etc. But this is the tough phase of his career,” explained police sources.
