Bangalore: Modi appealed to the people to rid the country of garbage. Addressing the state BJP leaders outside HAL Airport, Modi categorically said, “We keep saying Singapore is clean, Dubai is clean. But, back in India, if 125 crore Indians make up their mind, bringing about cleanliness is simple. I only beg with the people of India that if they dedicate two hours in a day, then we will go door-to-door to deliver the message of cleanliness.”

The union government plans to kickstart a week-long ‘Clean India’ campaign, starting September 25, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. “At first people, the people of this country did a clean-up (by giving absolute majority), and now the new government has taken up the task of cleaning the country,” Modi said.

“We will not make India dirty. Will you allow anybody to make Karnataka a dirty place? We will liberate Bharat Mata from garbage. Mahatma Gandhi got us independence from slavery. Today, we have to get ourselves independence from garbage. In this regard, I will personally go out holding a broomstick and clean the country of garbage,” he said.

Mayor Shanthakumari as the Mayor of Bangalore, gone to receive him and was shocked when he questioned her on the development of Bangalore

Aap Bangalore Mayor hain?” When the woman donning the ceremonial robe sheepishly nodded in affirmation, the next poser was: “Protocol kekaran se aapaageaaye?” She nodded again.”Aap Bangalore kakyavikaskarrahen ho?”, he asked.

“Sir, I am getting ready to implement swachata andolan,” Mayor N Shanthakumari told Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kannada. Introduced by former CM B S Yeddyurappa to Modi when he landed at the HAL airport on Tuesday evening, the PM’s interest in the development of Bangalore took her completely by surprise.

This augurs well for the citizens of bangalore, who can hope for a cleaner bangalore soon.
