Hubballi-Dharwad corporators fight over fee of actress Ragini

Bengaluru: In the month of October 2018, actress Ragini had visited Hubballi -Dharwad as part of city corporation’s efforts to create awareness on cleanliness and Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. The issue rocked the monthly meeting of the corporation on Tuesday.

All started with corporation authorities seeking approval for the payment of Rs.1.80 lakh for Ragini’s visit at the beginning of the meeting. Irked by this proposal few councillors started an argument opposing any such payment. As a result, the councillors remained divided and verbal dual continued. A few councilors even tried staging a dharna and after long drawn theatricals, finally, the councillors approved the payment.
It can be recalled that as part of the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, all the Urban Local Bodies needs to hire clean ambassadors to promote good practices among their residents.
The meeting witnessed chaotic scenes over the drinking water crisis in the twin cities, poor condition of roads, increasing cases of mosquito-borne diseases. No other major decisions were taken in the meeting due to the repeated protests and sloganeering.
