Bengaluru: A head constable was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted his brother-in-law’s minor daughter.

Police sources said that the head constable Basavaraju (45) had sexually assaulted the 17-year-old girl when she had come to his house four days ago for vacation. Basavaraju’s wife and children had gone out on Monday morning; the survivor went to take bath. Taking advantage of the situation, Basavaraju allegedly barged inside and sexually assaulted the girl.

The accused, Basavaraju, has been arrested under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A compliant has been filed by the girl at Rajajinagar police station. The girl has also alleged that Basavaraju had sexually assaulted her when she had come to his house two years ago.

Medical tests on Monday evening confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted. Basavaraju has alleged that the girl had filed a false complaint as there is property dispute between him and his brother-in-law.

The accused was produced before a magistrate on Tuesday and was remanded to judicial custody. Rajajinagar police is investigating further.
