Bengaluru: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has decided not to seek anticipatory bail in connection with a denotification case slapped against him.

He told reporters on Monday that the case was filed before the Lokayukta for political reasons and he would fight it out politically.

“My legal team is insisting that I seek anticipatory bail. But I have asked them not to press for it,” he said.

He alleged that some ministers in the Siddaramaiah Cabinet wanted him to be behind the bars.

However, Kumaraswamy refused to name them.

According to him, the notification file of a land owned by one Rajashekharappa had come up before him when he was the chief minister.

“All I wrote on the file was asking the secretary to go through the court orders and rules before denotifying the land,” he said.

“The official said it cannot be done after which the file was kept in abeyance,” Kumaraswamy said.

The same file was placed before BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa when he was the chief minister and the land was denotified, Kumaraswamy said.

“After the denotification, the land was purchased by my mother-in-law. How am I involved in the denotifiation case?” Kumaraswamy asked.

On May 6, the Lokayukta police registered an FIR against Kumaraswamy and Yeddyurappa based on a complaint filed by activist Jayakumar Hiremath.

According to the complaint, Yeddyurappa denotified one acre and 11 guntas under Survey No.7/1(b), 7/1(c) and 7/1(d) at Matadahalli in Ganganagar near Hebbal.

The land was originally owned by Thimmareddy and Nagappa. The land allegedly belonging to Rajashekharappa was later purchased by Kumaraswamy’s mother-in-law Vimala and transferred to her son T Channappa.
