Bengaluru: Former JD(S) state president C.M. Ibrahim has been suspended from the party for anti-party activities. In an official release, former Prime Minister and JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda issued an order suspending Ibrahim from the party with immediate effect.

Ibrahim has been suspended for breaching party discipline as per the party’s constitution and rules, stated Deve Gowda in an official release.

During his tenure as the president of the party’s state unit, Ibrahim was entirely inactive. No initiatives were taken to fortify the organization or conduct membership registration drives. His actions have evidently contravened the party’s resolution to form an alliance with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, said Deve Gowda.

The national president of the party was granted unanimous authority to forge an alliance with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with both the national president and legislative party leaders empowered to engage in discussions with BJP leaders in the best interest of the party. Ibrahim actively participated in all meetings convened to make a decision on this matter. However, despite his presence, he has made conflicting statements that have the potential to adversely affect the party.

On October 19, the national president issued a directive invoking Article 10 of the party’s constitution to dissolve the office-bearers of the working committee, including the state president of the Karnataka Pradesh Janata Dal.

In a statement made on November 7, He asserted his ongoing role as the state president of JD(S) and expressed dissent against the party by suggesting that anyone supporting an alliance with the BJP should step down from their positions.

On November 15, he conducted a meeting opposing the party’s stance in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, led by C K Nannu, thereby breaching party discipline. In light of these actions and statements, CM Ibrahim has engaged in activities detrimental to the party, as stated by the national president. Consequently, he has been suspended from the party.
