Bengaluru: Following a petition filed against granting permissions to hold protests and rallies in the state, the High Court on Thursday ordered issue of notices to state government, state police chief and Bengaluru city police commissioner.

HC orders stay on further appointments to KPSC-1Sai Datta from the city had filed a petition against granting permissions to hold protests and rallies in the state, particularly in Bengaluru.

In his petition, Datta contended that permitting such protests at busy traffic junction such as Mysuru circle, Town Hall junction, Ballari Road junction and other places hits traffic flow and the commuters struggle to go from one part of the city to another.

The petition also pointed out that these rallies and protests often turn violent resulting in huge loss to public property. Such violent protests have incurred a loss of around Rs 15 crore per year to KSRTC. The PIL also sought directions to recover the losses due to violent protests.
