Bengaluru: The state government on Tuesday launched a scheme of providing free emergency treatment up to Rs 25,000 for the first 48 hours for road accident victims in the state and as declared earlier, it has been named CM’s Santwana Harish Scheme.
The scheme comes as a tribute to Harish Nanjappa, a youth who donated his organs despite being severed into two by a truck which ran over him near Nelamangala last month. .
“The scheme is planned to ensure that no person who meets with a road accident is deprived of treatment for want of money. Irrespective of their financial background, every road accident victim will get up to Rs 25,000 for immediate treatment,” Siddaramaiah said and urged the people to rush to the help of accident victims as timely treatment could save several lives.
The CM hailed hailed Harish and said that he is truly a role model for all.
Harish’s mother Geetamma, who was present at the venue, expressed gratitude to the government for naming the scheme after her son.
“My son was not given timely treatment. No one should die a death like my son,” Geethamma said thanking the government for naming the scheme after her son.
She requested the state government to waive Rs 1.5 lakh loan taken by the family.
Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, Home Minister G Parameshwara, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, Dr Devi Shetty of Narayana Health were among those present.
