Bengaluru: The state government is contemplating to bring in an ordinance before the commencement of second Pre-University examination since the Karnataka Education (Amendment) Bill, 2017, which proposed a penalty of up to Rs 5 lakh and five years or both, not passed by the Assembly.
The select committee that had a meeting on Thursday, however, pointed out that the clause proposing heavy penalty on those who instigate persons entrusted with exam work to carry out their duty should be done away with.
According to reliable sources, there was also no consensus about the penalty for lecturers, who violate the scheme of evaluation. “All of us agreed that the five-year imprisonment and Rs 5 lakh penalty or both should continue for those involved in paper leakage,” the source said.
