Bengaluru: The state government is forcing the Rajiv Gandhi University Health Sciences (RGUHS) to buy the land which is under litigation for the purpose of constructing new campus for the university, said Syndicate and Senate members of the university.
Several Syndicate and Senate members of the university have convened a press conference in this regard on Thursday in Bengaluru and said, “Out of 216 acres of land marked for RGUHS new campus at Archakarahalli in Ramanagar district, 72 acres is still under litigation. But, government is putting pressure on the university to buy the land even if it is litigated.”
Dr Rajesh Shenoy academic council member and former syndicate member of the RGUHS said, ” We are not against to the decision over shifting the university to new campus, but we will not accept the decision to buy the land which is under litigation.”
According to Syndicate members, government is sending repeated communications to the university to buy the land and release the funds. In the latest communication which reached the university on Wednesday, government directed the university to release the funds in phase wise. “The letter written by the government was placed before the senate meeting on Thursday where the vice chancellor read out the letter,” said Dr Pradeep senate member.
Interestingly, the government is sending such communications even after the syndicate and senate members got a stay for the entire process approaching High Court. “Government is very adamant in this issue and not even bothering to the stay order and sending communications directing to release the funds. When the university is releasing the fund, the decision must be taken at the university about the construction,” mentioned Dr Ramakrishna, senate member.
The members who were present in the press conference said that they will wait for a week and if the government don’t change it’s stand, they will take decision over staging a agitation. “We have already brought this to the notice of the Governor by giving representations to him. We will meet him in person in couple of days and convey him the entire issue,” explained Rajesh Shenoy.
