Bengaluru: The state government has fixed the minimum fare for city cabs, following which taxi services may be charged differently.
The state government has ordered a minimum of Rs 44 for the first four km for small cars and Rs 80 for luxury cars.
Taxi operators can charge below the minimum fare set by the government if they wish to, but are not permitted to charge in excess.
According to the new rates list, the fares have been categorised into four-A, B, C and D and the classification is directly linked to the market price of cars. The small cars fall under the “D” category with minimum fare of Rs 44 and those cars costing above Rs 16 Lakh will fall under “A” category with minimum fare being Rs 80.
The price was last revised in June 2013 and the maximum passenger fares for small cars and mid-sized cars were then fixed at Rs 14.50 and Rs 19.50 respectively. Cab operators have been demanding fare revision for several years owing to the increase in fuel prices and operational costs.
