Mysore : Give pens rather than brooms at the hands of children of  municipal workers, appealed MV Venkatesh, President of the Safai Karmachari Hitharakshana Samithi.

Addressing reporters  here on Wednesday June 18,  he  said   it is a matter of regret that the children of municipal workers still continue to be exploited and deprived of education, even 65 years after independence. Many are taking to brooms to earn a livelihood, he lamented.

Stressing the need for municipal workers to give more encouragement to the studies of their children, he said private schools too must admit children of Safai Karmacharis and encourage them. He demanded   seats for five children of municipal workers in all schools and colleges. Institutions failing to do so will face protest  by closing pipelines and dumping wastes in front of them, he warned.
