Bengaluru: Garbage contractors have withdrawn their two days long strike in Bengaluru city paving way for garbage disposal since Wednesday morning itself.

Contractors were on strike since Monday opposing 18% Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) as per the provisions of GST by the BBMP in their monthly bill. As a result garbage piles were reported from across the city leading to chaos.

According to BBMP officials, even though no decision has been taken on the TDS, the strike was withdrawn by the contractors after an assurance from the state government that issue will be raised with GST Council. “Another bone of contention is the release of arrears for Pourakarmikas which will also be resolved amicably,” said an officer.

Meanwhile, according to the BBMP solid waste management unit officials, another 2-3 days will be required to clear garbage pile.
