Gandhi’s granddaughter urges Modi Govt to waive crop loans

Bengaluru: Following drought the BJP-led NDA government should waive crop loans borrowed by farmers urged Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi here on Friday May 27,
Addressing a massive farmer’s rally, Tara said that due to poor rainfall in the past three years the farmers were facing a tough situation. The state and Union governments were hardly concerned about their plight. Considering the situation as a national calamity, the government should waive loans borrowed by farmers.

Tara also vice-chairperson of Gandhi Smriti and Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust added that she was not playing politics by participating in the protest rally but came to the city only to understand the travails of farmers.

She asked the farmers to give their list of demands to their leader, Kodihalli Chandrashekar, so that he could convey them to  Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kodihalli Chandrashekar, president, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Haseeru Sene, Kadidal Shamanna and others were present.
