Bengaluru: A 56-year-old former policeman of Bahrain in Gulf is in Madiwal police net after he was caught in car lifting cases.
The police seized car worth Rs 35 lakh from Filakal Nazeer, a resident of New Gurappanapalya who worked as a police constable in Bahrain from 1998 to 2006.
Police have seized a Hyundai Santafe car worth Rs 35 lakh from Nazeer which he had allegedly stolen from a showroom in Chennai.
In 2014, Nazeer was arrested after he stole a car from Nissan showroom on Kasturba Road. He has also reportedly stolen cars from Rajajinagar, BTM Layout and Basavangudi. Apart from Bengaluru, he is accused of stealing cars from showrooms in Mumbai and Chennai.
Police said Nazeer would steal new cars from showrooms or service centres. He would dress like corporate employee, visit the showroom, take car on test drive and escape with it.
He would drive it home and park it on the roadside. He created fake documents for the stolen cars to sell them in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Nazeer is a native of Kerala who also worked in Bahrain before joining the police force. He has been arrested but got out on bail and continued stealing cars, police said.
