Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court, on Friday, directed the state government to form special squads to enforce the mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing directions.

A direction in this regard was issued by a divisional bench headed by Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka that was hearing public interest litigation (PIL) in the matter.

The bench observed that 198 marshals are not enough for Bengaluru city, which has a population of over 1.3 crores. So, the Court directed the government to form dedicated teams to enforce the rules.

The court also directed the state government to prescribe rules for social distancing and masks for rallies and events. The hearing has been adjourned to November 5.
