Bengaluru: Fire broke out on frothing Bellandur lake on August 12. Sewage flowing into the lake and chemicals from detergents and cleaners has formed a layer of dense froth on the lake and pollutants may be generating hazardous and combustible Methane gas resulting in fire, say sources.
The accumulation of waste due to encroachments of canals too serve as an outlet for the lake. A team of officials from the district administration and Revenue Department visited the lake.
Last year in the month of May repeated incidents of the lake catching fire was reported and despite this no action has been taken to clean the lake.
