Mumbai: A seven-storage Slum Redevelopment building  in suburban Vikhroli west, caught fire in the wee hours, around 2.00 am after an spark erupted from the electric cabin and turned into a full-fledged blaze, burning the entire building on Monday November 11.

Kailash Complex, a slum rehabilitation structure in Siddhartha Nagar in the central suburb went through a tragic experience when an explosion caused by a minute spark left the building burning for an hour and a half, before fire officials came to the spot and rescued the residents.

As the building is located on a higher surface area, it took the fire brigade official a while to travel and start the rescue operation. Furthermore, fire officials did not have water hoses big enough to extinguish the flames on the seventh floor, which caused delays.

Around 80 people were residing in the building out of which four died as they succumbed to smoke inhalation and burns; they are Gautam Shigvan (55), Purnima (50), Vishal (25) and Ayush Shardul (5) whereas eight were left injured.

It was learn that all the injured were shifted to Sion hospital.
