Bangalore :Kaushik Mukherjee, Principal Secretary to the State Government  said farmers will never think of selling off their farm lands if agriculture turns into a profitable occupation and they get good support price for their produces.

He was speaking after inaugurating a state level bankers meeting held here on Wednesday June 18.

Mukherjee said going by the present situation, farmers seem to be more interested in selling off their lands rather than continue with farming. Banks need to play a pivotal role in encouraging farmers, he added.

Instead of relying on old  norms of farm lands, new schemes that will help farmers lead a self-reliant life, should be mooted, Mukherjee said.
