Bangalore : State Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture Dr Shamanur Shivashankerappa has said that an expert committee from European nations would be visiting the state in September to undertake a study on the quality of mangoes and betel leaves grown here.
Replying to a question from Ramachandra Gowda of the BJP in the Legislative Council, the Minister said the expert team will visit various districts from September 2 to 12, interact with farmers and review the quality of the mangoes and betel leaves.
It may be mentioned here that the European nations had stopped importing mangoes after exporters failed to meet quality standards.
The minister said the revenue of the state through export of fruits and vegetables stood at Rs 6600 crores while the revenue from export of coffee alone was Rs 3.300 crores.
