Bengaluru: Days after the Chief Minister directed the BBMP officials and other government agencies concerned to vacate the encroachments on Rajakaluve as early as possible, the demolition of the illegally constructed structures was in full swing on Saturday morning, August 6.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials carried out an eviction drive in 32 areas spread across three zones, Mahadevpura, Bommanahalli and Yelahanka. The drive began at 9 am and is expected go till 6 pm.
The drive was carried out with hefty police protection. Around 300 officials led the drive. So far, 12 acres of encroachment has been cleared. As many as 28 buildings were razed to ground till 2 pm.
Some stray incidents of manhandling and verbal brawl between officials and residents were also reported.
The drive came out as a result of the strict direction from the CM a few days back on backdrop of rain water havoc which was created in the city.
The drive is expected to continue for another few days and will be carried out in all 8 zones of the city. The total worth of the property recovered is yet to be announced.
It can be recalled that last year too, BBMP had carried out similar sort of drive in Puttenahalli area and razed down dozens of illegal structures built on the lake bed, encroached by hundreds of layout developers and individuals.
