CM orders immediate evacuation of encroachments

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday directed the BBMP officials and other government agencies concerned to vacate encroachments on Rajakaluve as early as possible.

The CM asked the officials to take immediate action against the culprits behind the encroachments in a special meeting at the CM’s official residence with BBMP officials regarding the rain havoc in the city.

Officials informed the CM that BBMP has identified 1,923 cases encroachments on Rajakaluve out of which 822 have been vacated. There are 1,101 encroachments to be vacated but the encroached persons have moved to court and had brought stay order on evacuation, said officials.

Meanwhile, they also informed the CM that BBMP is preparing a detailed report on encroachments to convince the court. They further said that three layouts namely Deo layout, Anugraha layout and Akshaya layout developers have completely violated the norms and will be evacuated.

Meanwhile, the CM promised to allocate Rs 140 crore for BBMP in order to take precautionary measures to stop rain related disasters in the city in future.

Bengaluru received heaviest rains this year after 67 years.

According to officials, 7 lakes are filled up to their capacities. Filth formed in other lakes in and around the city, which has led to inundation in some areas, has to be cleared soon, officials said.
