Elderly man dies in accident, angry mob sets bus on fire

Bengaluru: Tension prevailed at Thanisandra in Hennur when an angry mob set fire to a private bus after it knocked down a 54-year-old motorcycle rider, killing him on the spot on Wednesday night.

The Hennur police who rushed to the spot resorted to lathicharge to disperse the angry crowd and brought the situation under control.

The incident occurred when motorcyclist Narayanapa, (54) a resident of Malleshwaram employed in a private firm was returning home from work. A private bus came in rash and negligent manner and knocked down Narayanappa. The profusely bleeding Narayanappa was rushed to a near-by hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.

Meanwhile sensing danger, the driver of the bus escaped abandoning the vehicle forcing the passengers to alight the bus.

Enraged by this, the residents damaged the bus by pelting stones and later set it on fire. The police rushed to the spot and and sensing more trouble they lathi charged to disperse the agitating crowd.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The Hennur police have taken up cases of accident and arson and are investigating further.
