Elderly couple die in road accident

Bengaluru: An elderly couple was killed and their grandson injured when a speeding Tamil Nadu-bound bus knocked down their motorcycle on the busy K.R. Market flyover on Tuesday morning.

The police have identified the deceased as Antony Joseph, 55, and his wife Sagai Mary, 53.

According the police the couple were travelling from J.J. Nagar to visit relatives in Wilson Garden. Their minor grandson suffered severe injuries and has been admitted to Victoria Hospital. The driver abandoned the bus and fled the spot soon after the accident. Traffic was disrupted for some time till the Chickpet traffic police rushed to the spot and cleared the accident spot. The police have seized the bus and efforts are on to nab the driver.

Drowns in sump

A four-year-old girl accompanying her mother to fetch water, fell in a sump and drowned on Tuesday. The incident took place outside her house in Amarjyothi Layout under Sampigehalli police station limits.

According to the police, the parents of the child, Sadhana, are from Tamil Nadu. They work as labourers.

On Tuesday, Sadhana was playing in front of their house around 7 p.m. while her mother was fetching water from a sump opposite their house.

The police said Sadhana lost her balance and fell into the sump.
