Bangalore : Sahana Kumari, a highly talented high jump athlete hailing from Ullal near Mangalore, has been selected for the prestigious Ekalavya Award given by the Karnataka State Sports Board. Seventeen other athletes too have been chosen for the Award.
Sahana is a national record holder (1.92) meters in high jump and has won several awards in state and national level championships. Sahana has also won gold in women’s high jump in the 79th Railways Athletics Championships.
After her schooling at Anandashrama High School in Someshwar near Ullal, she studied at Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College in Mangalore. She also created record in high jump in the university level and at All India Inter University Sports Meet.
Other sportsmen selected for the Award include Karuna Jain, S V Sunil, Varsha Puranik, J P Arjun, Swetha Naidu, Ajay Appacchu, G S Sharan, H Rohini, K Mahadev, Binitha Devi, Sagarika Shyam, Aditya Prakash, Sridar S Savanur, Preethan Chawgale and Sanjana Srinivas.
The awards will be presented at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Saudha on August 29.
