Bengaluru: The Central Election Commission (CEC) has decided to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) to avoid doubts in the mind of voters regarding the reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The commission had organized special programmes at Cubbon Park, J P Park, Sanky Lake and Lalbagh to create awareness on this machine.
People were allowed to vote using these machines. Folk teams were used and street shows were also staged to create awareness about the facility.
State Chief Election Officer Sanjeev Kumar said that the details of the candidate will appear on the window of the VVPAT machine merely seven seconds after voting. A chit with all these details will fall in a separate box. The vote registered in EVM and which is mentioned on the VVPAT should match.
“The EVMs will be reviewed in three stages in front of the representatives of the political parties. There will be complete security for them. The software which is in the EVM cannot be connected to the internet, Bluetooth or port,” he clarified.
BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said that this programme will be conducted in various important places like parks, malls and other areas for one month.
