Bengaluru: The Cubbon Park police have nabbed two con men who, claiming to be customs officers, duped a Scottish national and made off with gold valuables worth Rs. 3 lakh.
The duo have been identified as Govind and Ritesh, natives of Rajasthan. They met Steven from Scotland in Hampi with a business preposition to courier a gold jewels parcel to their contact in UK in his name, so that in turn he could earn some extra money.
Falling for their business proposition, Steven agreed and sent the parcel containing the fake gold valuables.
The accused later called up Steven posing as officials of Custom department and asked him to appear for questioning with the sales receipt of the gold he had couriered.
Shocked Steven contacted the duo who promised to help him out and gave another idea to purchase the gold valuables for three lakh and get the receipt and in turn keep the gold for himself. As per the plan, the duo took him to a gold showroom on MG road on April 3 and compelled him to purchase the gold using his credit card. They soon escaped with the gold valuables leaving Steven behind.
Realizing that he had been taken for a ride, Steven approached the Cubbon park police and filed a complaint. Based on the details given by Steven and with the help of CCTV footage, the Cubbon park police nabbed the duo and recovered the gold. The accused have been booked for cheating and impersonation and remanded to judicial custody.
