DK and Kodagu districts get two new taluks

Bengaluru: Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, which were expecting just one new taluk each got two new taluks. The state government issued an official notification in this regard.

According to the government gazette notification, in Dakshina Kannada district, Mulki and Ullal taluks will be created while in Kodagu will get Ponnampet and Kushalanagar taluks.

“There was a struggle for separate Mulki taluk for many years. But Urban Development minister UT Khader used his good relation with CM HD Kumaraswamy to get a new taluk for his home constituency as well,” informed an officer from the revenue department.

Similarly, there was a protest demanding only Kushalanagar taluk, but the state government decided to form Ponnampet taluk also.

Other new taluks include Kalasa in Chikkamagaluru, Saligrama in Mysuru, Shantigrama in Hassan, Yaragatti in Belagavi, Harohalli in Ramanagar, Chelur in Chikkaballapura, and Teradala in Bagalkot.
