Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Monday took umbrage Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment – badnami – on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi should behave like PM. He should not make defamatory comments on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He made `Nanganaach’ comment while addressing a rally in Bengaluru recently. Today, he made a comment – badnami – on Siddaramaiah. It is very unfortunate,’’ KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao told media persons here.

He said Modi told at a public meeting in Mysuru that Siddaramaiah has become badnami after coming to Bengaluru from Mysuru. “What does it mean? Does Modi mean that all people who come from other cities to Bengaluru are badnamis?’’ the KPCC working president asked.

Terming Modi’s speech in Mysuru nothing but verbose, he said if the prime minister has no issues to raise at the public meetings, there is no need for the people to attend such meetings in future.

“We expect Modi to come out with more stuff to answer our queries on his speech in Bengaluru where he described Siddaramaiah government as 10 per cent commission government. He repeated same allegations at Mysuru too,’’ he said.

Criticising Modi for misleading public on housing programme in Karnataka, he said the state government has promised to construct 15 lakh houses during its tenure (2013-18). “The government has already completed 13.71 lakh houses and spent Rs 14,300 crore on the same. By March end, the government will complete 15 lakh houses for the urban and rural poor,’’ he said.

Coming down heavily on the prime minister for not releasing funds for housing under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), he said the prime minister has made an allegation that Karnataka has been allotted 3.36 lakh houses for poor under the PMAY, but the state government has constructed only 38,000 houses.

“The Centre’s share is Rs 4,357.6 crore but released only Rs 345 crore which is not even 10 per cent of its share. Despite this, the state government has spent its own money and already completed 21,905 houses and further the construction of 38,000 houses is in progress,’’ he said.
