Bengaluru: As per the directions of the High Court, the BBMP started registering criminal cases against all those who throw garbage in public places. BBMP authorities have registered eight cases in the Indiranagar and Halasur police stations against those who were found to be littering.
According to the BBMP officials, as per the HC’s directions, these persons have been charged under IPC sections 283 and 269. “All the accused are out on station bail. But they need to go through trail at the court,” informed officers.
As per the HC’s orders, the city’s residents are required to give the garbage only to the garbage vehicle operators and not to dispose of it in public areas. The BBMP even hired the services of retired army personnel to monitor the littering incidents.
“This is the beginning. Once we register cases against more people, fearing legal action, they may stop this bad practice. All must be thankful to the High Court for making the city clean,” he explained.
