Crime rate in Bengaluru down, thanks to CCTV cameras!

Bengaluru: The CCTV cameras in the city have come as a boon to Bengaluru police in tackling increasing crime rates.

Several cases ranging from bank heist, chain snatching, assault and molestation have been cracked in record time as the cops get key leads from CCTV footages.

In 2017, Bengaluru police cracked half of the theft cases in first seven months with the help of clues received from CCTV footages. Over 350 cases of robbery were reported in the Silicon City and out of the 250 cases solved, 120 of them were solved after obtaining CCTV footage.

Bengaluru police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said, “Soon after collecting footage from a CCTV camera, we scan them and decide the next course of action. If it is a robbery case, we send the photos to police stations across Karnataka and ask them to identify the suspects. Also, teams are sent to railway stations, bus stands and airports. In house theft cases, footage of the intruders are matched with offenders having a criminal record. Most of the time, it is habitual offenders who would have committed the crime.”

CCTV footages became the crucial weapon last week as the cops identified and arrested the accused for stealing 25 motorcyles.

Bengaluru police have check crime in the city have requested people to install CCTV cameras in their locality providing additional security.
