COVID19: 116 wards in Bengaluru now containment zones

Bengaluru: With COVID 19 positive cases rapidly spreading across the city Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has notified 116 wards as containment wards. In eight wards the containment zone status has been ‘extended’ while the rest 105 have ‘active’ status. It has also increased the number of containment zones to 113 from 40 across the eight zones.

“Many cases are ILI and SARI which signal the community spread of the disease,” said sources in the state health department. “The biggest challenge is containing the spread of the disease in the monsoon period,” he explained.

BH Anil Kumar, commissioner, BBMP announced that if required the BBMP is ready to construct field hospitals in the city. “But such a situation has not emerged till now,” he added.

Meanwhile, at both the state-run Bowring and the Victoria hospitals, the health department has decided to resume Non-COVID 19 health services. All these days, these hospitals were notified as COVID 19 only hospitals.
