Bengaluru: In the wake of last Saturday night’s shocking incident, wherein five young women in a car were allegedly harassed and threatened by a gang of miscreants outside Lakeview Milk Bar on MG Road at around 11:45 pm,  the Bengaluru city police have introduced special night rounds every Friday and Saturday with additional Hoysala and Cheetah patrolling vehicles, including the all-women Abhaya jeeps.

Each patrol vehicle will be assigned specific roads and areas that receive heavy footfalls on weekends. The police will focus on roads like MG Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, Lavelle Road, Vittal Mallya Road, Koramangala, 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar and surrounding areas which house a large number of pubs, nightclubs, and microbreweries which are permitted to stay open until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

One police inspector, two sub-inspectors, and nearly 10-15 other lower-rung policemen, four Hoysala jeeps and four Cheetah bikes will be assigned a particular road to patrol for the night in the central business district.

They will be alert to suspicious activity.

The police  will conduct awareness campaigns to make the public aware of their initiatives.
