Bangalore: Head constable Shivshankar (43), attached to Koramangala police station, sustained multiple injuries in August while chasing thieves in Koramangala. He succumbed to injuries on Thursday.
He was on night rounds with his colleagues on August 9 when based on a tip off, he and his colleagues rushed to a ladies hostel where he saw some men were climbing towards the fourth floor. In a bid to catch them, he scaled the first floor. He ran across the roof of an auditorium which had a false ceiling and the roof gave in, and Shivshankar fell on his face. He suffered multiple injuries, the most severe being a head injury. He was rushed to the St. John’s hostial and then Manipal Hostpital by his colleagues.
A statement from Manipal Hospital said, “Shivashankar suffered multi-organ failure. Despite the efforts of a team of doctors from intensive care, neurosurgery, gastroenterology and nephrology, he succumbed on Thursday morning.”
The deceased was from Hoskote in Anekal taluk. He lived in Adugodi police quarters with his family. He is survived by his wife, son and a daughter. The last rites were performed at Hoskote.
Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi said, “Since he was injured on duty, the government will compensate the family.”
