Bengaluru: The State government which already went through a hectic summer with many issues is now facing a new challenge with the chairpersons of boards and corporations demanding extension of their tenure.

The Congress which is already facing the daunting task of Cabinet reshuffle is now facing pressure from the chairpersons of boards and corporations.

According to sources, around 10 to 15 chairpersons, led by Karnataka Forest Development Corporation chairperson Narayanaswamy Chalavadi met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara and pressed for an extension in their tenure. Few of the women chairpersons like Vasanthi Shivanna, B C Geetha, Mallajamma and Rani Sathish have reportedly met AICC chief Sonia Gandhi in this regard.

The appointments of these chairpersons was made in November 2014, almost two years after Congress came into power. The tenure will come to an end on May 25 for the chairpersons. According to the agreement, the current members will serve for 18 months and new members will serve for the next 18 months.

The present chairpersons say that since the appointment of members happened just recently, they regret that they have not been able to do justice to their work. The members have decided to approach the high command if the state leaders do not heed to their demands.
