Complete lockdown in Karnataka from May 10 to 24

Bengaluru: Amid a spike in cases of Covid-19, the Karnataka government has imposed a complete lockdown from May 10 till 6 am on May 24.

Speaking to the press, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that as previous measures to contain the spread of the Covid 19 did not yield good results, the state government has planned to implement a complete lockdown in the entire state.

The revised guidelines issued by the Government of Karnataka shall continue to remain in force from 6 am on May 10 up to 6 am on May 24.

According to the guidelines, Schools, colleges, educational or coaching institutions, etc. will remain closed. Online learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged. Hotels, restaurants, and eateries shall be permitted to operate kitchens for taking away or home delivery of food items only. No vehicles will be allowed to be used by persons for taking parcels. The only movement by walk is allowed for this purpose. However, hotels, restaurants, and eateries can use vehicles for home delivery.

All cinema halls, shopping malls, gymnasiums, sports complexes, stadiums, playgrounds, swimming pools, parks, entertainment parks, clubs, theatres, bars and auditoriums, assembly halls, and similar places, all religious places or places of worship shall be closed for public.

All facilities in the supply chain of essential goods, whether involved in manufacturing, wholesale or retail of such goods through stores or e-commerce companies shall be allowed to operate adhering to National Directives for COVID 19 management. No movement of Public or Private buses or passenger vehicles will be allowed except emergencies.

Movement of Officers or personnel traveling with the valid ID card issued by their Organization or Institution to the place of work and back for permitted activities is allowed. Shops dealing with food, groceries, fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, and animal fodder shall be allowed to function from 6 am to 1O am. Public Distribution System shops are allowed. Takeaway only is allowed from Standalone liquor shops and outlets, from 6 am to 10 am. 

The guidelines allowed the government offices will be functioning with 50% staff.

Banks, insurance offices and ATMs, Print and electronic media, telecommunications, internet services, broadcasting, and cable services are allowed to operate.

To ensure strict enforcement of the measures, the government has said legal action will be taken against those who don’t follow the guidelines.
