Bengaluru: Following the successful common seat allotment counseling process for the Post Graduate (PG) medical and dental seats available in the government medical colleges, private medical colleges and deemed universities including seats available under management and Non Indian Resident (NRI) quota, state government may ask Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK), association of minority medical and dental colleges and association of deemed universities to join hands even in the MBBS and BDS seat allotment process.
According to the sources in the state medical education department, this year National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) has been made compulsory for all medical and dental admissions both at Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) level irrespective of type of college and type of seats. “Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is filling up all the medical and dental PG seats this year including seats available under various categories in private medical/dental colleges and deemed universities including NRI quota, Management quota etc which are considered as golden goose. Compared to PG seats, there is not much demand for MBBS/ BDS seats. So, these associations may agree for centralised counseling even for MBBS and BDS seats,” informed sources.
“If the dream of common counseling is realised, the MBBS and the BDS seat aspirants need not attend multiple counseling sessions. Instead they can select course/ college of their choice through online process,” said an officer.
“Presently we are busy in PG admission process. By May first week student may get a clear picture,” he said.
