Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday advised differently-abled people to lead life on par with others in society without feeling disappointed and depressed or being neglected.

“Differently-abled people have to lead life with self-respect and dignity. The government will conduct a survey in the state to identify the differently-abled people,’’ the chief minister said after distributing 2,000 two-wheelers to the beneficiaries.

Elaborating on the welfare schemes implemented for the benefit of differently-abled people, the chief minister said the budgetary allocation of funds has been increased to Rs 1,074 in 2017 as against Rs 647 crore in 2014.

“The beneficiaries who received two-wheelers today were identified last year. The government has already identified 4,000 beneficiaries for this year. The function will be held in December to distribute 4,000 two-wheelers,’’ he said.

The chief minister said the distribution was delayed due to the change in model of vehicle by the Central Government. “There are 13,20,204 differently-abled people in the state and among them, 90,000 have more than 75 per cent disability but I am not convinced the number of people with 75 per cent disability. The government will conduct a survey in the near future. The government will, if it is necessary, distribute two-wheelers for all differently-abled people,’’ he said.

The chief minister the state government has been giving pension and reservation in jobs for differently-abled people. “The government has been giving Rs 50,000 incentive to those who marry differently-abled people. Karnataka is in the forefront in implementing welfare schemes for differently-abled people. The state government has received a national award in this regard,’’ he said.

Speaking on the occasion Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Empowerment of Differently-abled and Senior Citizens Umashree said the state government has implemented many schemes, including scholarship, laptops for differently-abled students.
