Bangalore: On Monday, July 12th, The FIFA world cup finale will go on past midnight – so what do the schools do? They relax the timings so that kids can watch the finale and sleep late and come fresh to school. In a country where cricket is religion, strangely, football has become God. The Argentina-Germany battle royale is set to kickstart at 12.30am. A few schools have put off monthly class tests while some have delayed commencement of classes — something they haven’t done for cricket.
At Vidyashilp Academy, classes start at 10.30am on Monday, instead of 8.15am. Bethany High has permitted its students to come at 11.00 am instead of 8.00 Am. Frank Anthony Public School has postponed its monthly class tests scheduled for Monday. The number of schools relaxing timings is only likely to increase, but Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and Baldwin Boys’ School have no such plans as of now.
The hype surrounding the cup finale is promoting the game in India and especially among the young. Hopefully one day in the near future India will have its own Neymar and Messi to look up to.
