CID begins probe into ADGP case; HM assures impartiality

Bangalore: The CID began its probe into transfer of senior IPS official, Dr Ravindranath and his spat with Bangalore City Police Commissioner over the alleged clicking of photograph of a woman in a coffee shop.

Addressing a press conference on Friday May 30 Karnataka Home Minister K J George assured an impartial and time bound inquiry, into the probe.

“The CID has commenced its inquiry and is expected to come out with its findings in a fortnight. I assure that there will be no government intervention in the investigation”, he said.

The Home Minister asserted that the incident had not affected the image of the police. ‘It is an isolated incident and the Department is not involved’, he said.

On Dr Ravindranath transfer, the Home Minister clarified that the allegation instigated the Karnataka State Reserve Police constables into the agitation.

“The fact was that the complainant woman was ready to withdraw her complaint if Dr Ravindranath apologized but he insisted on filing of FIR against himself and he too filed a complaint against the COP and others under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Protection) Act. All cases have been handed over to CID for probing” said George.

The CID Probe

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday started the probe under the leadership of CID Deputy Inspector General of Police Soumendu Mukherjee.

They visited the coffee shop on Cunningham Road, where the alleged incident took place on Monday, and questioned its staff. The CCTV cameras at the coffee shop were found to be malfunctioning. Thus, no video recording of the incident is available.

Bipin Gopalakrishna, DGP (CID) said, the forensic science laboratory report on the mobile phone that was used to click the photos will sort the allegation however the aim is to complete the probe at the earliest and there is no deadline fixed.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID) Ravindra Gadadi has been named the investigating officer of the case.
