Bengaluru: Amid growing tension across the state over the delay in the release of the flood relief from the central government, the central government rejected the state’s flood loss estimation and has instead asked for a fresh proposal.

According to the authorities, under the NDRF guidelines, the state government had sought Rs.3,500 crores relief claiming loss of Rs.38,000 crores in the flood, landslides and the rain. The loss estimation was submitted to the union home ministry.

But now the home ministry has rejected the estimation. According to the sources, the state government was informed by the union home ministry officials that the estimation was done in an incorrect way. “For example, the house collapsed/ damaged in the rain and the flood is 1.5 lakhs. But the state government has shown it as 2.5 lakhs. All these discrepancies are found in the state estimation. The central government made it clear that it can release amount only after the errors are rectified,” said an officer from the state revenue department.
