Bengaluru: Following the modified request (without a stipulated time frame) from the state govt. for a CBI probe into the DK Ravi death on March 16th, and the notification issued by the Central Govt., the CBI has started its investigation into the death of DK Ravi.
The agency is conducting the probe from its Chennai office, and is currently collecting all relevant and related documents.
“Documents, including the first information report (FIR) and other spot inspection reports by the city police, have been collected. We have to get some more documents from the criminal investigation department (CID) which later took over the investigation from the city police,” said a senior CBI officer.
He said the next job before the agency will be to list out suspects, if any, and witnesses in the case. “The first witness will be Ravi’s driver Elangovan, who mysteriously disappeared soon after the incident and remained incommunicado later. But the CID seems to have taken his statement. We will be questioning him once again as there are certain missing links in his actions just before the IAS officer’s death,” said a CBI source.
The list of suspects will be drawn up only after the preliminary investigation conducted by both the city police and CID, Bengaluru, is reviewed. “We may summon whoever we want either to CBI Bengaluru unit or to the Chennai office if required,” the officer added.
Delay in commencing investigation:
Another senior CBI officer said the delay in returning to the state the original notification entrusting the CBI with the probe into Ravi’s death was caused as it had to seek legal opinion on the time limit of three months given in that notification.
“Though there appears to be some delay, the investigation process commenced as soon as the first notification reached the CBI headquarters, which entrusted the probe with the deputy inspector general (DIG), CBI in Chennai,” said a senior officer. The superintendent of police, CBI in Chennai will supervise the investigation in close coordination with the SP, CBI, Bengaluru, said the senior officer.
DK Ravi’s IAS Batch mate welcomes CBI probe:
The news that the CBI has begun its investigation into the mysterious death of IAS officer DK Ravi, 35, has been welcomed by a batchmate of the late bureaucrat.
In a Facebook post, Rohini Sindhuri Dasari, chief executive officer, Mandya zilla panchayat, wrote: “Good news…It’s finally Official. Days following the sad demise saw a frenzied overdrive to plant stories on half lies, motivated leaks. Sad and unfortunate…if only people did their jobs as given by law and conscience and not give into powers that be – illusional or real. We could have been in a better system. Hope it’s not too late for the truth to prevail.”
