Bengaluru: While former Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Alok Kumar’s house was raided by the CBI, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said that there is no connection between him and the raid.

Commenting on the raid, HDK said, “Let them conduct a raid on anybody’s residence. What has that to do with me? Phone tapping is a common phenomenon in every government’s regime.”

“The raid on Alok Kumar’s residence is not my headache. I’m not afraid to be called for any sort of interrogation by the investigative agency. Under the provisions of the law, anybody can be subjected to interrogation,” he added.

Commenting on Alok Kumar’s character, HDK said that he is an honest officer.

It can be recalled that the Congress-JD(S) coalition government, helmed by the then Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, was accused of tapping the phones of several leaders and officers during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led government, formed after the collapse of the coalition government, had transferred Alok Kumar and directed the CBI to probe the phone tapping case. During their investigation, CBI officials found that one particular phone number was associated with the technical support centre of the state police, where Alok Kumar was serving at the top, before assuming charge as police commissioner.
