BMRCL to have reserved seats for women soon

Bengaluru: What can be termed as a great move, the BMRCL (Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited) is all set to go the BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) way in terms of reserved seats for women and other commuters shortly.

The BMRCL in its official statement said that the metro rail cars, in both phases, will have reserved seats for women, differently capable persons and senior citizens. The BMRCL is going to introduce reserved seats from September 1.

In total, 24 seats will be reserved in each train, consisting three cars and the BMRCL will not levy fines on the passengers in the initial period for violating the norms, the statement said.

The BMRCL trains have the capacity of carrying approximately 1,000 commuters in each fleet. The announcement came after huge a number of passengers started demanding for it especially at peak hours.

Nayandahally-Byappanahalli stretch receives record number of women commuters in comparison with other stretches and the BMRCL’s move has come as a much needed relief for women commuters, the statement said.
