Bengaluru: The Bengaluru City Traffic Police have collected nearly Rs 30.11 lakhs in fines from motorists since the Central Government’s new Motor Vehicles Act came into effect two days ago.

According to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B R Ravikanthegowda, the police have recorded over 2,978 cases of traffic rule violations. “Most of the violations were that of motorists riding without their helmets or driving cars without wearing the seatbelt,” he added.

Meanwhile, the city police have asked school authorities to ensure that there is enough parking space to park the school buses.

“We will not allow any school to park the buses on the road. We will tow such vehicles as they disturb the movement of traffic,” said Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao.

He also said that vehicles parked on the main roads will be towed away as they also disrupt the movement of traffic.
