Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit has decided to organize a protest on September 16 across the state demanding Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J. George’s resignation.
“Despite Supreme Court’s directive to handover DySP M.K. Ganapathy’s suicide case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Minister George is continuing as the minister. We are holding protest demanding his resignation,’’ BJP state president B.S. Yeddyurappa told reporters here on Monday.
Yeddyurappa said BJP MPs, MLAs, former legislators and senior leaders would take part in the protest. “The protest will be held at all district headquarters across the state,’’ he said.
He opined that George, who had resigned and joined the ministry after getting a clean chit from the CID, should have resigned as soon as the Supreme Court said the CID report is not free from errors. “Let George resign now or let the chief minister drop him from the Cabinet,’’ he said.
The Supreme Court has directed the CBI to submit the report in three months. “Let George become minister again if the CBI inquiry finds him not guilty. Now, he has to resign immediately,’’ he said.
CM has to clarify
Criticising chief minister Siddaramaiah for objecting students of Mysuru University listening Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with Delhi students on the occasion of 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 speech, BJP stat president Yeddyurappa has condemned the chief minister and demanded him identify himself as a Hindu or an Indian.
“Siddaramaiah’s objection deserves condemnation. He has to apologise to the nation. Siddaramaiah has to clarify whether he is a Hindu, Muslim or Christian,’’ he said.
Rice distribution
The BJP leaders plan to distribute rice to rain-affected families in Bengaluru on September 17. “The state government is responsible for the rain-related problems in the city. It is not responding to the problems of people affected due to heavy rains. Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George’s inefficiency is the main reason for these problems,’’ he said.
Coming down heavily on Minister George, he said the minister had claimed of spending Rs 702 crore for strengthening storm water drains and Rs 900 crore for development of roads in the city. “The minister recently said around Rs 300 crore needed for developing the roads in the city. I want to ask him where has all the money gone,’’ he said.
