Bangalore: “We are thinking whether it is possible to hand over the task of implementation of the proposed 700-MW gas-based power plant project in Bidadi to any of the Central agencies,” said Energy Minister DK Shivakumar  during a press meet on Thursday May 29.

Owing to the delay  in the project due to litigation on tenders, Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL) is planning to cancel the tenders and get the project implemented through a Central agency. He also reiterated that KPCL would set up a 350-MW gas-based power plant at its diesel power generating station in Yelahanka.

He said the State had a total wind energy potential of 13,236 MW and clearances had been given to various developers to set up plants with a capacity of 12,752 MW.

However, only plants with total capacity of 2,365 MW had come up so far, he said, and added the government had issued notices to the developers of projects with a total capacity of about 10,000 MW asking them to explain the reasons for the delay in execution of the projects.
