Bengaluru: The city commonly recognized as the IT hub of India, is gaining attention for an unusual cause. A resident, Srijan R Shetty, has utilized the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to narrate a troubling incident concerning his wife. This occurrence has ignited a broad discussion on social media, encouraging individuals to divulge their own distressing encounters.
In his viral X post, Shetty expressed how, despite feeling generally safe in Bangalore, he was confronted with the harsh reality of the city’s safety concerns, especially post-10 p.m. He referenced notorious videos of fake accidents in Sarjapur, where criminals attempted to blackmail people in their cars.
According to Shetty, on November 8, his wife, in an effort to assist colleagues struggling to find a cab in Sarjapur, offered to drop them off. Shockingly, their car was pursued by a group of men for several kilometers. Showing presence of mind, Shetty’s wife stopped only on the main road and immediately informed the police.
Shetty revealed that the men demanded the occupants to exit the car, and the vehicle was even hit by tempo drivers, adding pressure on the occupants. Disturbingly, he noted that none of the bystanders came to the aid of the three women and one man in the car.
Commending his wife’s quick thinking, Shetty highlighted how her decision to pull over on the main road and promptly alert the police played a crucial role in preventing a potentially dire situation. He emphasized the urgent need for improved security, especially in areas like Sarjapur, which has witnessed a surge in such incidents.
The post garnered significant attention online, with users sharing similar unnerving experiences. Some recounted instances where dashcams proved crucial, while others stressed the importance of filing FIRs to ensure accountability and deterrence.
Bengaluru police responded to the online discussion, urging users to provide specific details about the incident. The city has witnessed a series of similar incidents recently, involving criminals attempting to extort money through fake accidents or staged vehicle crashes.
